LATAM Airlines Business Class Amenity Kit — Altitude Collection
A six-piece Business Class amenity collection translating South America’s landscapes into a refined material and colour system.
Context
As Design Lead at WESSCO International, I led the design and development of LATAM Airlines’ Altitude Collection Business Class amenity kits, created in partnership with Costa Brazil.
The project was developed alongside creative agency New Territory, whose overarching creative direction drew inspiration from the work of Brazilian architect Oscar Niemeyer and the Nazca Lines of Peru. My role was to translate this creative vision into a manufacturable amenity collection through product form, colour, materials, and detailing.
Designed for Business Class, the program includes Full and Express kit formats across six landscape-inspired colourways, creating a cohesive collection rooted in South America’s geography.
Challenge
The challenge was translating an established creative direction into a physical product collection. Inspired by Oscar Niemeyer’s architecture and the Nazca Lines, the amenity kits needed to express a distinctly South American identity without relying on literal graphics.
The collection also needed to differentiate the Full and Express formats while maintaining a consistent design language, encouraging long-term reuse through durable materials, practical functionality, and timeless design.
Our Approach
Translating the Creative Direction
Working from New Territory’s creative vision, I developed a product language that expressed the concept through colour, texture, form, and material rather than graphics. The result is a restrained collection that reflects South America’s landscapes while remaining consistent with LATAM’s premium brand.
Building a Cohesive Collection
I designed two complementary bag structures — Full and Express — that shared the same geometric design language while serving different passenger needs.
The collection features six colourways representing landscapes at different elevations: Amazon (100m), Atacama (2,500m), Salar de Uyuni (3,660m), Lake Titicaca (3,800m), Vinicunca (5,033m), and Aconcagua (6,961m). Each combines subtle shifts in colour, finish, and hardware to create a distinct identity while remaining part of a unified family.
Designing for Secondary Use
The Full kit incorporates a detachable leatherette loop that can be reused as a cable tie after travel. This small functional detail encourages continued use while reinforcing the collection’s focus on longevity.
Sampling and Refinement
Working closely with WESSCO’s sourcing teams and manufacturing partners, I refined materials, colour accuracy, stitching, and construction through multiple rounds of sampling to ensure both bag structures maintained their appearance and performance through repeated use.
